☀️ GOOD MORNING, HOLLYWOOD!
Happy Sunday! The World Cup kicks off tomorrow right in our backyard — South Florida, this is your moment. Plus an important heads-up for east Hollywood residents, iguanas are taking over again, a big summer concert is being teased for July 19, and July 4th fireworks are less than three weeks away. Let's get into it! ⚽🌴

The wait is finally over. The first FIFA World Cup match at Hard Rock Stadium is tomorrow — Monday June 15 — Saudi Arabia vs Uruguay at 6 PM, just 15 minutes from Hollywood. Over 1 million additional visitors are expected across South Florida throughout the tournament. Seven matches run at Hard Rock Stadium through July 18 — including Brazil on June 24, Ronaldo and Portugal on June 27 and the Bronze Final on July 18. Can't get a ticket? Hollywood's own massive free Watch Party on Hollywood Boulevard is June 27 — Colombia vs Portugal, Ronaldo's night — completely free, Downtown Hollywood. And Broward County is hosting free watch parties at Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise starting tonight. This is the biggest summer South Florida has ever experienced. Soak every minute of it in.

📰 NEWS & STORIES

A heads-up for residents near the Southern Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant in east Hollywood. Crews are currently working on multiple system repairs — and over the next several days those in the area may notice a higher-than-normal concentration of odor. The City of Hollywood is quick to clarify that the odor poses no harm to humans or environmental health — but could be an irritant for those with higher sensitivity to environmental odors. Tips: keep windows closed, run your air conditioning and limit outdoor activity near the plant until repairs are complete. For questions or concerns call Public Utilities at (954) 921-3288.

Following last week's story on the sargassum invasion, here's another South Florida summer reality check — iguanas are back in full force after February's brief cold snap, and Hollywood homeowners are feeling it. The good news is there are things you can do. The University of Florida IFAS Extension recommends: removing fallen fruit from mango, citrus and other trees that attract them, filling in burrow holes immediately before they expand, installing motion-activated sprinklers along fence lines and garden borders, and considering professional removal companies for serious infestations. They are protected from cruel treatment under Florida law but can be legally removed humanely. They're not going anywhere this summer — but your garden doesn't have to be their buffet.

Hot on the heels of the massive June 27 World Cup Watch Party, the City of Hollywood is building anticipation for a second massive free outdoor event at Young Circle on Saturday July 19 — described as a standalone summer concert bringing "the world's biggest stage alive in the heart of Hollywood." Artist and lineup details are expected to drop soon. Keep The Hollywood Blend bookmarked — we'll have the full announcement the moment it lands.
Full event details haven't been published yet — check hollywoodfl.org for the latest.

Three weeks from Friday — the City of Hollywood's annual Star Spangled Spectacular returns to Hollywood Beach with live entertainment from 5 PM and a spectacular offshore fireworks display at 9 PM. One of South Florida's best free Fourth of July celebrations — drawing thousands to the Broadwalk every year. Important reminders: no alcoholic beverages, backpacks, pets, personal fireworks, glass containers or single-use plastics permitted on the beach. Expect heavy traffic and very limited parking — arrive early or take rideshare. A Hollywood summer tradition not to be missed.
