📊 Where Do Hollywood and Fort Lauderdale Rank in Florida's Best-Run Cities Study?

A brand new WalletHub study comparing 148 of the largest US cities on how efficiently their local governments operate just dropped - and the results are worth knowing for South Florida residents. WalletHub ranked cities across 36 metrics including financial stability, education, health, safety, economy and infrastructure. Jacksonville came in as Florida's best-run city at #18 nationally, followed by Tallahassee at #29 and St. Petersburg at #47. South Florida cities landed lower - Miami at #74, Hialeah at #75, and Fort Lauderdale - our closest major neighbor - at #108 out of 148. Hollywood and Hallandale Beach were not among the 148 largest cities included in the study. Nationally, Provo, Utah topped the list for its low crime rates, strong business growth and excellent road quality. San Francisco ranked dead last. The takeaway? Smaller, well-managed cities like ours often punch above their weight - and the numbers tell a story worth paying attention to.

1. 🎆 July 4th Star Spangled Spectacular at Hollywood Beach - Two Weeks Away

Two weeks from today - the City of Hollywood's annual Star Spangled Spectacular returns to Hollywood Beach with live entertainment starting at 5 PM and a spectacular offshore fireworks display at 9 PM. One of South Florida's best free Fourth of July celebrations drawing thousands to the Broadwalk every year. Important reminders: no alcoholic beverages, backpacks, pets, personal fireworks, glass containers or single-use plastics permitted on the beach. Plan for heavy traffic and very limited parking on the barrier island - arrive early or take rideshare. A Hollywood summer tradition not to be missed.

2. ⚽ Hollywood Boulevard World Cup Watch Party - One Week From Today

Seven days from now - Saturday June 27 at 4 PM - Hollywood Boulevard transforms into the biggest free outdoor event our city has ever hosted. Hollywood Boulevard closes from US-1 to 21st Avenue for two World Cup matches - England vs Panama at 5 PM AND Colombia vs Portugal at 7:30 PM - followed by live concerts from Los Wizzards and AleMor at 9:30 PM. Free parking at City Hall (2600 Hollywood Blvd) with a free Sun Shuttle to Downtown from 2 PM to 2 AM. $10 parking at city garages from 3 PM. Entry checkpoints at 19th and 21st Ave - under 18 must be with a parent or guardian. Arrive early - gates close at maximum capacity.

3. 🏗️ The Big Easy Casino Site in Hallandale Beach Is Being Transformed - Two New Residential Towers Coming

Another major transformation is underway in Hallandale Beach. Developer Greenzone Property Hallandale 770 LLC is moving forward with plans to redevelop a large portion of the former Big Easy Casino site at 501 NE 7th Street with two eight-story residential towers featuring 278 units - ranging from 499-square-foot efficiencies to 1,050-square-foot apartments. The project adds to the wave of residential development reshaping Hallandale Beach's skyline alongside Oasis Hallandale, SQUARE Hallandale and multiple other major projects underway. A city that was once overlooked is rapidly becoming one of South Florida's most dynamic urban destinations.
