Postgres Didn't Fail You. Your Architecture Did.

Adding a second database was supposed to fix things. Now you manage sync, drift, and pipelines on top of queries that are still slow.

TimescaleDB extends Postgres instead. Hypertables, 95% compression, continuous aggregates. One database. No pipeline.

🌤️ TODAY'S WEATHER - Sunday, July 5

🌡️ High: ~88° | Feels like 100°+ | Afternoon storms likely
Hot, sticky, and a touch wetter than yesterday. Rain chances tick up as high pressure slides east, so expect scattered showers and thunderstorms through the afternoon and evening. Good day to plan around the pop-ups: beach early, and keep an indoor backup for that 4 PM kickoff.

TODAY'S TOP STORY

The World Cup's knockout rounds have taken over the weekend, and today is a big one. At 4 p.m., five-time champions Brazil face Norway, and at 8 p.m., the tournament serves up an instant classic: Mexico vs England at the iconic Estadio Azteca. No match at Hard Rock today, so this one's for the couches, the barstools, and the block parties.

If you'd rather watch with a crowd, downtown Hollywood and the Gulfstream watch spots have packed out for every match, and Mickey Byrne's Irish Pub has been a World Cup HQ all tournament. Margaritaville and the Broadwalk sports bars will have the games on too, so you can catch the action with your toes near the sand.

And save some energy for tomorrow: the USA plays Belgium in the Round of 16 Monday at 8 p.m., the match South Florida has been waiting for. Wherever you land, it's a great few days to be a soccer fan around here.

📰 NEWS & STORIES

Post-holiday Sundays on Hollywood Beach hit different, a little slower, a little quieter, and still plenty to do. The Hollywood Beach Theatre closes out the weekend with The Ruminators bringing jam and funk to the stage from 7 to 9 p.m., free, with room to dance.

Down the Broadwalk, Margaritaville keeps the long-weekend energy going with patriotic games and family activities through the afternoon, a DJ at the Lone Palm pool deck from 1 to 5, and live music into the evening. Prefer produce over a party? The Yellow Green Farmers Market runs 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. with hundreds of vendors just up the road.

However you spend it, get there early, the heat and the afternoon storms both build after lunch.

One of Dania Beach's most anticipated openings is nearly here. Mystic Social Club, the Caribbean restaurant and hidden speakeasy coming to 242 E Dania Beach Blvd, is targeting a mid-July debut, with July 16 as the current goal.

The menu leans into island comfort food: jerk chicken and jerk pork, conch and oxtail pastas, Trinidadian doubles, and Bahamian conch salad. The vibe is built for a night out, with live DJs and occasional bands spinning soca, reggae, dancehall, hip-hop, and R&B. Plans call for six days a week, lunch through dinner, with a happy hour in between.

It's another sign of downtown Dania Beach's slow-build into a real dining-and-nightlife corner. We'll have the confirmed opening details as they firm up.

If it feels like the iguanas are winning, the city is fighting back, and asking for your help. Hollywood has a team of professional trappers on the invasive green iguanas; you'll spot them in bright orange "Wildlife Trapper" shirts, licensed by the state and the Department of Agriculture for humane removal.

Property owners are encouraged to pitch in. The city's playbook: make your yard less inviting by trimming the foliage, fruit, and flowers iguanas eat and nest in, filling the burrows they dig, and spraying them with water to move them along. Homeowners can also remove iguanas themselves within anti-cruelty laws, or hire a licensed service, but note the animals can't be relocated or released back into the wild.

Questions or a persistent problem? The city's Department of Public Works takes iguana calls at 954-967-4526.

The World Cup has three matches left at Hard Rock Stadium, and two of them are still to come. Miami hosts a quarterfinal on Saturday, July 11 at 5 p.m., one of just eight teams left standing, followed by the Bronze Final (the third-place match) on Saturday, July 18, the only one in the country.

It caps a huge summer for the stadium, which has hosted matches all tournament, from the group stage through last week's Round of 32. Tickets have been scarce and pricey, mostly moving through FIFA's lottery and resale, so if you're hoping to go in person, keep an eye on official resale.

Not going? The party comes downtown: Hollywood is planning a World Cup Final watch bash on Sunday, July 19. More on that as it firms up.

SPOTLIGHT: Sundays on the River

Image: The Wharf

When the heat index tips into the triple digits, here's a Sunday escape worth the short drive. The Wharf Fort Lauderdale, the open-air spot right on the New River downtown, runs a weekly "Sundays on the River" with live music, a lineup of local vendors, and a frozen drink bar built for exactly this kind of weather.

It's low-key and waterfront: grab a frozen cocktail, browse the market stalls, and let the breeze off the river do the rest while a band plays. A cool, easy way to close out the weekend when the beach gets too toasty.
