🔥 Massive Brush Fire Just South of Hollywood - Air Quality Alert Issued for Broward County
A three-alarm brush fire in West Miami-Dade County - just south of our area - has burned over 600 acres near Northwest 137th Avenue and was only 45% contained as of last night. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, the Florida Forest Service and multiple agencies are battling the blaze with helicopters making water drops. Critically for Hollywood, Hallandale Beach and Dania Beach residents - an air quality alert has been issued for Broward County. If you can smell smoke or see haze this morning - that's why. Residents with respiratory conditions, asthma, heart disease and the elderly should stay indoors with windows closed and air recirculated. The fire also caused power outages and knocked out traffic signals in nearby areas. This comes after a brutal fire season - western Broward's Max Road Fire already scorched over 11,400 acres in May. The full June 27 Downtown Hollywood event lineup is confirmed - and it's even bigger than we thought. Hollywood Boulevard closes from 19th to 21st Ave starting at 4 PM for a full festival experience featuring two World Cup matches - England vs Panama at 5 PM AND Colombia vs Portugal at 7:30 PM - followed by live concerts from Los Wizzards and Colombian-American pop star AleMor at 9:30 PM. Multiple giant video screens, food trucks, retail vendors and a full festival atmosphere - all completely free. Parking at city garages from 3 PM to 2 AM. June 27 is shaping up to be one of the greatest nights Downtown Hollywood has ever hosted.
