🌤️ TODAY'S WEATHER - Saturday, July 4

🌡️ High: ~90° | Feels like 100°+ | Storms clearing by evening
Hot and classically South-Florida-summer, so hydrate early and find shade midday. Scattered afternoon storms are likely (about a 60% chance), but the forecast has rain clearing out by around 7 PM - right in time for the 7:30 band and the 9 PM fireworks. Keep an eye on the radar and pack a poncho just in case, but the show should go on under clearing skies.

TODAY'S TOP STORY

Tonight, Hollywood Beach throws its biggest party of the year, and this one carries extra weight: it marks the 250th birthday of the United States. The city's annual Star-Spangled Spectacular takes over the Hollywood Beach Theater and Broadwalk, capped by a roughly half-hour fireworks show launched from a barge just off the sand. Front-row seats run the length of the Broadwalk, and it's all free.

Here's the run of show at the Beach Theater: a DJ warms up the crowd from 6 to 7 PM, the official welcome lands at 7, and the rock-covers band Sippin' Fire plays 7:30 to 9. Then, at 9 PM, the sky over the Atlantic lights up.

A few things make the night smoother. Leave these at home, they'll be confiscated at the entrances: alcohol, glass, coolers longer than 36 inches, grills and open flames, and (of course) your own fireworks or sparklers. Hollywood Beach is also plastic- and foam-free, so pack reusable and carry out what you bring in. Restrooms are at the Nebraska Street garage and along the Broadwalk at Tyler, Fillmore, Johnson, Garfield, Taft, and Missouri.

📰 NEWS & STORIES

While you're staking out a fireworks spot, remember who else calls this beach home right now. Early July is the peak of sea turtle nesting season on Hollywood Beach, prime time for the loggerheads, greens, and leatherbacks that nest along Broward's 24-mile coast (more than 3,000 nests were documented here last year).

The city's ask is simple: avoid the marked nests and the dunes, and go easy on flashlights and phone lights near the water. Artificial light disorients nesting females and, later in summer, the hatchlings trying to find the ocean. Disturbing a nest isn't just discouraged; it can carry real fines.

This year the turtles have an added obstacle: a record sargassum season. The thick seaweed mats piling up on South Florida beaches can block nesting females coming ashore and trap hatchlings on their crawl to the sea. So enjoy the show, but tread lightly, the beach is doing double duty tonight.

Every Fourth is a birthday, but this one hits a milestone: 250 years since the Second Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. The quarter-millennium mark, the semiquincentennial, is being celebrated coast to coast in 2026, and Hollywood's fireworks are part of a nationwide moment.

It's worth a beat of perspective as the sky lights up. The document being marked tonight was a statement of separation from Britain, but its most quoted line, that "all men are created equal," became the promise the country has spent 250 years arguing over, expanding, and trying to live up to.

So when the first shell bursts over the Atlantic tonight, you're not just watching a great show. You're part of a birthday two and a half centuries in the making.

If one night of fireworks isn't enough, the Margaritaville Hollywood Beach Resort has stretched the holiday into a full weekend right on the Broadwalk. Friday through Sunday, the resort is running a packed schedule of poolside games, beach competitions, family crafts at the Parakeet's Kids Club, DJs, BBQ activations, and live music.

Saturday leans all-in on the holiday: a water balloon toss and Red, White & Blue Tag on the beach in the morning, an '80s music trivia party with prizes at Lone Palm, a magician for the kids, and two guest BBQs at the pool decks. A DJ spins at Lone Palm from 1 to 5, and the resort's beachfront location means you can watch the 9 PM fireworks with your toes in the sand.

A note on access: some activities are for registered resort guests only, but plenty of the dining, drinks, and beachside spots are open to everyone, which brings us to a very on-theme reason to stop by. See today's spotlight.

The beach fills up early on the Fourth, and once it hits capacity, police turn cars away, so have a plan before you go.

Parking. The two city garages on the beach, Garfield (300 Connecticut St) and Nebraska (327 Nebraska St), charge a $30 special-event flat rate (7 AM to 9 PM) and fill up fast, early. Other beach lots (Hollywood Beach Garage, North Beach Park - enter before sundown, Keating Park, the Diplomat, and Margaritaville) may have their own event rates. Parking on private property? Follow the posted rules exactly or risk a tow.

Skip the car. The electric Sun Shuttle runs extended hours, 10 AM to 10 PM, dropping at designated beach spots for $2 per ride (grab the "Ride Circuit" app). The free Holly-Go community shuttle runs its normal route with expected delays. Rideshare pickup and drop-off is at A1A & Johnson Street and North Beach Park.

Road closures. Dania Beach Boulevard stays open until 8:30 PM, then closes to the barrier island until 11:30 - after 8:30, get to the beach via Hollywood Boulevard. Expect one-way patterns on Ocean Drive all day, and the Dania Beach, Sheridan, and Hollywood Boulevard bridges lock down (8:30-11:30 PM) to keep cars moving. Give yourself extra time, and pack your patience with the sunscreen.

SPOTLIGHT: A Daiquiri for a Cause

Raise a Glass for a Cause: The "Come Monday" Daiquiri

Here's a way to toast the 250th that does a little good. All weekend, Margaritaville Hollywood Beach is pouring a Come Monday Daiquiri for $12, a tropical, on-theme layer of half pina colada, half strawberry daiquiri with a blue curacao float (red, white, and blue in a cup). The best part: $1 from every drink goes to Give Kids The World, the nonprofit resort that hosts critically ill children and their families.

Find it at the Margaritaville Restaurant, 5 O'Clock Somewhere Bar & Grill, LandShark Bar & Grill, Lone Palm Pool Bar, LTC Bar, and out at the Pools & Beach. In their words: raise a glass to 250 years of freedom, friendship, and fun in the sun. 🍹

🏖️ THAT'S YOUR BLEND FOR TODAY! Get to the beach early, go easy on the turtles, drink water between the daiquiris, and enjoy the show. Happy 250th, Hollywood - we'll see you tomorrow.
