📰 NEWS & STORIES

1. 🥞 The Best Brunch in Hallandale Beach Is a Hidden Gem You've Probably Never Tried If you haven't been to Untoasted on W. Hallandale Beach Blvd yet, this Saturday morning is your perfect excuse. The local gem has quietly earned a devoted following for its made-to-order Banana Dulce de Leche French Toast, Chicken and Waffles Benedict with spicy honey syrup, shrimp and grits and fresh-squeezed mimosas. Everything is cooked fresh, the service is warm and the vibe is casual Florida perfection. Open daily 8 AM–4 PM at 3121 W. Hallandale Beach Blvd — no reservations needed, but go early on weekends because the line builds fast. Yelp reviewers are literally begging for a sixth star.

2. 🎨 Free Guided Art Walk Through Downtown Hollywood — Tonight at 7 PM Tonight is the 3rd Saturday of the month which means the Choose954 Guided ArtWalk is on in Downtown Hollywood — and it's completely free. Broward County native and Downtown Hollywood resident Evan Snow leads an intimate guided tour through his favorite galleries, restaurants and art highlights along Harrison Street, starting at the Information Tent at 20th Ave & Harrison at 7 PM sharp. You'll meet local artists, explore hidden studios and discover parts of Downtown Hollywood most residents have never seen. One of the most fun free things to do in our city — if you've never been, tonight is the night.

3. 🐢 Sea Turtles Are Nesting on Hollywood Beach Right Now — Here's What to Know Right now, under cover of darkness, ancient sea turtles are crawling ashore on Hollywood Beach to lay their eggs. The City of Hollywood's sea turtle nesting season runs March 1 through October 31, and the Broward County Sea Turtle Conservation Program — run by Nova Southeastern University — documented over 3,000 nests along our coastline in 2025 alone. Three species nest here: leatherbacks, loggerheads and green turtles, all endangered. If you're on the beach early morning you may spot their tracks. The rules are simple: no lights, no flash photography and stay well back if you see a turtle. Bonus: You can actually go on a guided turtle nesting walk this June and July at the Dr. Von D. Mizell-Eula Johnson State Park in Dania Beach — reservations required at hcas.nova.edu/seaturtles. One of the most magical experiences South Florida has to offer.

4. 🏠 Your Property Taxes Are on the Line — What Every Hollywood Homeowner Needs to Know Governor DeSantis has called a Special Legislative Session starting Monday to overhaul Florida's property tax system. Senate bills would raise the homestead exemption from $50,000 to $150,000 in 2027 and $250,000 in 2028 — which sounds like a win for homeowners, but here's the catch. For the City of Hollywood alone, that means an estimated $15 million budget shortfall in 2028 and $28.4 million in 2029. Nearly 46% of Hollywood's General Fund comes from property taxes — and two-thirds of that funds public safety, parks, beaches, street lights, sidewalks, code enforcement and community center programming. If revenue drops, service cuts follow. This issue will appear on the November ballot for you to decide. In the meantime you can make your voice heard right now by reaching out to your representatives: Senator Pizzo (954) 893-5045 | Senator Dr. Sharief (954) 424-6674 | Rep. Woodson (954) 965-3700 | Rep. Cassel (954) 872-0180.
