TODAY'S TOP STORY

📌 TODAY'S TOP STORY 🌡️ Extreme Heat Warning Coming to Hollywood — Heat Index May Exceed 105°F Next Week

Hollywood residents — important heads-up for next week. NOAA's Climate Prediction Center is forecasting a 40–60% chance of extreme heat across South Florida from June 18–22, with heat index values potentially exceeding 105°F. The forecast — shared by the City of Hollywood just yesterday afternoon — warns that little overnight relief is expected, with record high minimum temperatures possible. That means scorching days AND hot nights with no break. Plan accordingly: limit outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours, hydrate constantly, check on elderly neighbors and family members, and remember that Hollywood's air-conditioned community centers are open and free. Keep pets indoors during peak heat.

📰 NEWS & STORIES

Talk about a Tuesday afternoon surprise. A US Navy submarine surfaced in the waters off Dania Beach yesterday, with WSVN's 7Skyforce helicopter capturing the vessel traveling northbound about a mile and a half from the Dania Beach Pier — with several support boats following behind. When submarines are spotted in South Florida waters it typically means training exercises — there's an active Navy undersea training range just south of Port Everglades inlet that has specialized in shallow and deep water electromagnetic research for over 50 years. No official Navy statement has been released. Just a reminder that even a regular Tuesday afternoon in Dania Beach can throw you a curveball. 🐬

The Genesis Inspiration Foundation — backed by Genesis automotive dealers across South Florida — just presented a $25,000 donation to the Broward Performing Arts Foundation to fund educational and enrichment programs right here in Broward County. For Hollywood, Hallandale Beach and Dania Beach families, this means more arts education, more performances and more community enrichment at the Broward Center. A quiet but meaningful investment in our community's cultural future.

With the first World Cup match at Hard Rock Stadium just 4 days away, Miami just added one more incredible reason to make the trip. The FIFA Museum at Miami's Freedom Tower is now open — a two-floor exhibition featuring jerseys from all 211 FIFA Member Associations, historic objects, interactive stations and the complete story of the world's greatest sporting event. 30 minutes down I-95 from Hollywood — an immersive experience for soccer fans of all ages before the matches begin this Sunday.

In all the World Cup and concert excitement, here's a reminder about one of the most peaceful and underrated summer experiences in our four cities — the Dania Beach Fishing Pier. Stretching 920 feet into the Atlantic, it's one of the longest fishing piers in Broward County — completely free to visit, with some of the most dramatic ocean views in South Florida. Sunrise on the Dania Beach Pier is genuinely one of the most beautiful free experiences in Broward County. Pack a fishing rod, grab a coffee and go before the heat of the day sets in.
