TODAY'S TOP STORY

This Fourth of July is a milestone: the nation's 250th birthday, and Hollywood Beach is marking it in style. The city's Star-Spangled Spectacular returns to the Bandshell on Saturday, July 4, with a live DJ at 5 p.m., a headliner band at 7, and an offshore fireworks show lighting up the ocean around 9.

It's free and right on the sand, so expect a big crowd. The city runs a one-way traffic pattern that day (in from Hollywood Boulevard eastbound, out via Sheridan Street westbound), with free shuttles from downtown and paid parking at the Margaritaville garage. Best move: arrive early, pack light, and ride the shuttle.

Bring your beach chairs and all the red, white, and blue you've got. The full schedule and updates are on the city's site.

📰 NEWS & STORIES

One of the area's most familiar landmarks is headed for a transformation. Aventura has approved a sweeping redevelopment of Gulfstream Park that clears the way for up to 1,633 new homes, plus land set aside for a new charter school, on the property right at the Hallandale Beach line.

The plan keeps the racing-and-casino identity while layering in apartments, shops, and gathering space, part of a yearslong push to turn the site into a true live-work-play district.

It's a big bet on the Hallandale-Aventura border, and one to watch as it moves from approval toward construction.

Dania Beach's reputation as a boating hub just got a boost. Nautical Ventures has opened a new flagship at 50 South Bryan Road, trading its old Federal Highway showroom for a full-service destination: boats, watersports gear, marine accessories, rentals, and electric marine products.

It sits minutes from Dania Pointe and the company's 115-slip marina on Anglers Avenue, with on-water experiences so you can try before you buy.

Whether you're a serious boater or just paddleboard-curious, it's a fun one to wander.

Quietly, Dania Beach has become one of South Florida's best waterfront values. A new market breakdown makes the case: beach access, the Dania Pointe shops and restaurants, the airport and Fort Lauderdale minutes away, and prices that still undercut the pricier neighbors up and down the coast.

With new apartments, restaurants, and marine businesses arriving, the once-overlooked city is having a moment, without losing its low-key, old-Florida feel.

If you've been beach-curious about the neighborhood, it's worth a closer look.

The World Cup's biggest moments are landing in our backyard. Hard Rock Stadium has three knockout matches left: a Round of 32 game on July 3, a quarterfinal on July 11, and the Bronze Final on July 18.

That last one is the tournament's single third-place match, so Miami gets one of the marquee games of the entire World Cup, about 15 minutes from Hollywood.

Tickets are scarce and pricey, but downtown Hollywood and area bars have been packed for every match, expect the same energy for the run-in.

🤍 'The Garden of We': Hollywood Dedicates Its COVID-19 Memorial This Week

This Wednesday, Hollywood unveils a permanent place to remember. The city dedicates The Garden of We, a new COVID-19 memorial at Bob Butterworth Park, with a ribbon-cutting on Wednesday, July 1 at 10 a.m. (5202 Washington Street).

The memorial honors the neighbors lost during the pandemic, along with the medical professionals and first responders who carried the community through it. It was created by artist Stephanie Cunningham and championed by Commissioner Traci Callari and State Representative Marie Woodson, conceived as a lasting tribute to resilience, remembrance, and hope.

The ceremony is open to all. Anyone who would like to reflect and pay their respects is welcome to attend.
